The Courtyard Story
|
The courtyard wasn't always a courtyard like it is today. For many years of BJA history, it was lovingly referred to as "the land between the buildings." Tall trees and the flag pole were the only decorative features in this piece of land. During the fall time, the trees in the courtyard turned brilliant colors and were a favorite of teachers and BJA families. However, some saw in it the potential for more. In an effort to transform this plot into an educational haven for outside learning and discovery, many BJA families donated money to get the work started. The agricultural and landscaping students at Bob Jones University designed the layout and began the transformation of the space in 2007. Little by little, this space took on an educational aura and now it serves as a splendid place of growth and discovery for the entire BJA family.

What to expect. |
Our courtyard includes two water features, complete with two waterfalls and ponds of Japanese Koi. There are two outdoor classrooms of stone benches and an outdoor chalkboard. Two areas of stone tables and benches, as well as other smaller gathering areas provide space for group work. The vegetable garden, butterfly garden, measurement center, and other small learning items throughout the courtyard make it a place where learning is taking place in every season.

What we expect. |
While the courtyard is a place for everyone to learn and share, we expect that anyone learning in or visiting the courtyard respects the space by staying on the path, not taking items from the courtyard, and using quiet working voices so as to not disturb the bordering classrooms on either side.
