4B has been checking the courtyard pumpkin blossoms for the development of its fruit since our Science study of how the blossom becomes the fruit of flowering plants. The fruit is very important to the plant because it contains the seeds which enable the plant to reproduce/ make another of its kind.
In preparation for their trip to Paris Mountain State Park, the fifth graders are practicing their ecological skills. They have been in the courtyard testing water samples and investigating the ecosystems found outside our very classroom windows! Can you guess how cold the water is? Stay tuned below for their updates.
After only receiving photos and some ideas for new features in our courtyard, Mr. Mark has done an amazing job of building and creating some great educational tools! You'll notice a rootbox where students can SEE plants grow in real time, an outdoor chalkboard near the outdoor classroom, a beautiful arbor over the entrance to the courtyard that will soon be teeming with ivy, and an outdoor tic tac toe game for classroom review games. Let's give Mr. Mark a big hand for the great job he's done this summer in making our courtyard a better place to learn!
New plants have joined the courtyard family this summer! We're excited to have a Crepe Myrtle, Foxglove, a Canna Lily, Peach tree, and Ferns! Stay tuned for interesting details about these newcomers to our courtyard
It isn't every day you find such talented first grade gardeners! The BJA first graders in 1B and 1C planted 6 types of seeds in the soil bed of our courtyard and carefully watered it until school was let out for the summer! Now tended by Miss Dunn and Miss Klipp, the garden is flourishing and is enormous! They even enjoyed a special picnic in the garden on July 9, complete with a pumpkin raffle and popsicles! Way to go, gardeners!
